Come-to-Jesus Soup

You need this recipe. One of the first times I served it in Okinawa, Japan a young man in our church said, "This soup could bring anyone to Jesus." Obviously, only the Holy Spirit can do that! But we've called it Come-to-Jesus Soup ever since.

No joke: when my dear friend served the soup to her neighbors, a neighborhood women's Bible study was born. When I took it to a grieving friend she said, "There are no words for that soup...This is the most I've eaten in two days."

This soup really can be used to draw people to Jesus! And it's so easy. Make it. Serve it. Give it. Thank Jesus for it.

Come-to-Jesus Soup

{Chicken (or Turkey) and Wild Rice Soup}

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 celery ribs, diced

  • 2 carrots, diced

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 1/2 cup flour

  • 4 cups chicken broth

  • 2 cups wild rice, cooked (I like to use the microwave Uncle Ben pouches)

  • 2 cups light cream

  • 2 cups turkey or chicken cooked and cut up

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • salt and pepper to taste

In a large pot, sauté onion, celery, and carrots in butter until onion is transparent. Reduce heat. Blend in flour and cook until bubbly. Gradually add broth, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil for about a minute. Reduce heat, add rice, cream, turkey, parsley, salt and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring frequently.
