Christianity: the world's most dangerous religion

Did anyone die in your church today?  No?  Not in mine either.  We did eat bagels, though.  Take five minutes to watch this video about a church in Nigeria where, on one recent Sunday, many did die.

Today is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.  In case you didn’t know:

  • 150,000 Christians worldwide are killed for their faith each year (Aid to the Church and Open Doors)
  • Christians are the most persecuted religious group worldwide--they are persecuted in at least 60 countries (Open Doors USA)
  • 80% of all acts of religious discrimination in the world are directed against Christians (Germany-based International Society for Human Rights)

Over the years I have had great intentions to pray for the persecuted church.  I’ve hung maps.  I’ve bought books.  I’ve setup email reminders.  Some of these methods have stuck for a season and I’ve been blessed to remember my suffering brothers and sisters.  But my prayers are inconsistent and eventually grow week and without passion.

I’m renewing my commitment today, on the 2013 International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.  Christianity is the most dangerous faith on the planet and our brethren in chains deserve our concern.  They are precious to God and if we love Him we will love them.

Visit the below websites of Voice of the Martyrs and Open Doors and join me in praying for the persecuted church around the globe.
